EMDR (or Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapeutic technique that can be used for the treatment of trauma, PTSD, and more. This treatment uses eye movements or other methods of bilateral stimulation to reprocess past experiences in order to create more adaptive memory associations in the brain. EMDR techniques aims to alleviate physiological distress caused by the traumatic or adverse memories, establish more positive beliefs about self, and help clients to move forward in more adaptive ways. Basically, EMDR helps individuals to process and heal from past traumatic experiences and decrease emotional distress.
The process of EMDR is difficult to explain in just a couple sentences! If you'd like to learn more about what the process looks like and see if you'd be a good candidate to start EMDR, feel free to reach out to set up a 15 minute free phone consult. I look forward to hearing from you!Â
